I touched on the topic of mentoring some time ago, but I want to expand further by including the importance of networking.
Everyone should have their own circle of trust. People whose opinion they listen to and respect.
Oftentimes, in almost any professional field, seeking a mentor is an advantage. Someone with established success obtained by years of experience who can advise you and possibly guide you in your desired direction.
As an esthetic student, my first real inside mentor was my instructor, Miss Tanna. She was not only an instructor, but also a working esthetician with her own salon. We were close in age, she was a no-nonsense type and I immediately identified with her teaching methods. She liked my focus, complimented my drive and recognized my passion for this industry by how I often shared resources with the class and thought outside the box.
I’ve shared how devastating it was when she left the academy just two months shy of the finish line. She motivated me and was a great starting example of the character, integrity and professionalism one needs to be successful.
